Say... what does Greg do now? Is he still in New Zealand?
I'm not sure if I could say that I take pictures well. I've taken a few good ones, but I'm blaming that on statistics. A dozen good ones for a sample set of nearly 1000 is still in the realm of accidental photography.

My residence visa would imply otherwise. I'm really just looking for some idyllic tax shelter...

Greg: I didn't know they had that many jobs, or that many cities, or that many houses there. :) But seriously though, are you thinking of ever coming back?
That's really a tough call to make at this point. I've been living here since 2002, and I'm very much at home now. I've got the coolest job that I've ever imagined having[1], I live in a great city with a thriving arts scene, and I've got a cool new girlfriend, too. On the other hand, my dad is getting older and much more frail, and I'm at a distance that means at least a day's travel to get home if something happened.
If I were to move back, I'd probably not move to Alberta. Vancouver is an easy option, but I think I'd try to go east instead. Montréal would be cool, but work would probably take me closer to the Ottawa valley.
At this point, I'm expecting that I'll stay in Wellington for a couple years, unless something comes up. I'm just finishing up the first year of my two year requirement for my residence visa. After that, I've got more decisions to make.
[1] My first project on this job was implementing a flanger, which is a first milestone to doing some work with a reverb patent that my manager is working on. My current project is in medical imaging. I've got a 60/40 split on my time between the two projects for the coming year. I like both of them a lot.

I'm glad you're happy right now - that's what we all hope to get out of life. :) Too bad you won't be back in Alberta though. Is it because of the weather? :) I have the same thing with Vancouver.
I think two things go into not going back to Alberta. The first is that there is very little DSP work in Edmonton. That may be a bit out of date now, but it was true when I was still looking for jobs there. The other thing is that Calgary just doesn't do it for me. I love visiting there, but there are still tons of things about it that I just don't like, so if I were to move back, it would just be for the friends who still live there.
While I don't know where I'd go next, I'm pretty sure I'll be here for a little while yet. I keep telling my family that it's so they have a little more time to come and visit. And if anyone's interested in working in the southern hemisphere, I've got a few contacts between here and Aussie...
