An alternative medicine shop called Neal's Yard Remedies was to answer questions about its products through The Guardian (UK newspaper). The publicity stunt backfied.

Here's an example of an irritating fallacy that I've seen come up enough to notice... People who say "it could be true or it could be false, so there's a 50/50 chance it's true. No, no, no.

Here it crops up in an argument against materialism.

Time to get back to the roots of the Sznak.

Crazy dancing video!

Taking notes for the next time I go dancing:
  1. Pelvic thrusts
  2. Push-ups
  3. Flailing (had that one down already)
  4. Kicks and flying knees
  5. Hitting your head on a lamp
Look out ladies, here I come!

Measles has a new friend, and her name is Jenny McCarthy. A delightful ditty.

She has medical expertise because she's a mom...

I know what you're saying, so does Susan Smith, and she drove her car in a lake when it was full of her kids.

Here's a nice debate tactic: ignore facts and laugh at the opposition.

In 1945, the Nazis went to the moon. In 2018, they're coming back...

That's the basic idea behind the upcoming movie, Iron Sky.

Nazi UFOs.

I can't believe I never thought about this before... The reason doctors ask you to turn your head when they ask you to cough is so you don't cough at them. It never dawned on me, and I was never curious. Guess you aren't that inquisitive when your sack is being cupped by a dude. I imagine that's universally true, actually...

Thank you, SGU Podcast!

Hey, know how incompetent people just can't tell that they're incompetent? There's a name for it: The Dunning-Kruger Effect. Below a certain competence level, people can't judge whether they're good at something or not, and figure they can do just as well as trained professionals.

It's nice to finally have a name for this. All thanks to Brownian.

Secular humanists in New Orleans got the city to recognize the "Day of Reason" (an atheist version of the "Day of Prayer"). Ian, of the blog Terahertz Atheist, blogs that this is hypocritical.

What do you think?

BTW, here's the National Day of Reason website.

The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra is accompanying the Pointer Sisters. You can win tickets to the show. How? By recording your best Neutron Dance and putting it on YouTube. Here's the original video for inspiration.

There's just not enough shoulder padding left in the world to do this. You'll have to hire some civil engineers to build trusses or something.

Trekkies bash new Star Trek Movie as "Fun, Watchable".
Yes, it was exciting, but where's the heavy-handed message about tolerance? Where was the stiff acting? It just didn't seem like a Star Trek movie to me.

Some researchers argue that life on earth was inevitable. It's a neat hypothesis.

Governor Mike Pence questioned on his belief of evolution. It's actually a pretty good interview. Both people seem intelligent, but have differing agendas.

Teacher disparages religion in his High School class. He definitely deserves to get in trouble for this. The things he is discussing belong in University-level history religious history classes, and certainly don't need to be presented with vitriol. He's not helping anyone this way, and now he's in deep shit.

Bill proposes that education be optional in Alberta. Whistle blown by PZ Myers.

Not wanting something to be true doesn't make it untrue.
